Oblivion

Recently I started playing Elder Scrolls IV (I know it came out a while ago). I have to admit it is quite fun. Albeit training your character can be tedious, the sense of adventure is great. I prefer the way this game is to MMOs since you don't have to deal with annoying snobs calling you a "noob" (I refuse to spell it with "leet" figures). Nevertheless, online interaction aside, it does bring me back to the days when I played Asheron's Call in my dad's office with my brother back in high school. Anyway, I am an Argonian-which is a reptilian group that doesn't seem to drown (I know, usually water=instant death in video games).

I need to explore and investigate more parks and historic sites. I also need to finally actually go camping in my life. Hopefully I will find time for these and they would be enjoyable.

Fancy hearing cake

I was reading Plutarch the other day and noticed a story about Solon that I had heard at some point before. It's about how a Lydian king wanted to impress the Greek law-giver with his wealth. Solon was not taken and in fact lectured him about how happiness cannot be measured in a person until that individual is dead. I find that quite a fascinating point of view on life. Plus I admire Solon for being unfazed. It is very irksome how a great deal of Americans need to boast. Anyway, I can't exactly remember when I last heard that story but it was rewarding to recognize it.

Old pc game

I've been researching a game I used to play on Windows 3.1 but could not find any answers. From what I recall it was point-and-click (I think) style with a purple and black general pattern to the scenes. It was a spooky game where you tried to find clues to some sort of mystery maybe. It was set in a house with a Victorian feel to it. The closest game that may have in fact inspired it was something called Mystery House. I know it was not this game because the screen-shots of that game look more primitive than the game I'm trying to remember. The Colonel's Bequest is another game that seems somewhat like it from my findings except that the game I remember seemed to have more paranormal elements than Colonel. Some details I can think of from the game in question include a scene outside near a shack or something with a creepy farmer/maintenance guy (holding a pitchfork?). There was a dining room and some kind of bedroom that had either a ghost of a woman or dead woman or something laying on a bed.

Hopefully this description helps. I've already searched archives of related communities but haven't found anything yet: I'm going to try and post in them.

Component

Good to be back. My internet hadn't been working for awhile. My family recently got a new computer, and, after doing setup, the information superhighway has returned to my house! Work has been pretty much the same; still no full-time job (sigh).

Let me give my congratulations to the Phillies! I had been waiting my entire life for such an event. It's all the more awesome since there had been so much heartache in Philadelphia sports for the last quarter century.

For Halloween I dressed as the Wireless Wizard from Teen Girl Squad! If anyone ever wants to see photos from it I'll post. I has hoping to go somewhere but couldn't think of anywhere so I just hung out at my house and then with Abbey.

At some point I'd like to get studio monitors to assist with my music making. I've been wanting to just sit down and grind out a work of music but my "space" (not room) is always being subject to entropy from people in my house putting stuff all around the instruments and such. In other technological news my house got a component cord for the ps2 so it will have better picture and not have to be switched with the rca cords of other electronics . . . exciting. Until next time.

Bolt Level 4

I've been playing Shining Force lately. If you don't know what that is it is a really fun role-playing game for Sega. In addition to revisiting the original I also finally got to beat Shining Force CD. You see, for my birthday when I was 12 I got Shining Force CD for the Sega CD, it was so awesome! The problem, however, was that you needed a backup cartridge to do any significant saving of files. For some reason, we didn't get that backup cart and my dad returned the game. It's funny because maybe later that year or the next year we finally did get a backup cart. Unfortunately, ever since then, Shining Force CD has been impossible to find for a reasonable price. It was not until last year, that I found a very cheap copy with no case or anything that I was finally able to play it again. Of course I don't always have time for video games anymore. But some time last month I started getting into it again and it was exciting beating both stories.

In other thoughts, I wish people would have more respect for Philadelphia, PA. I think it is the most interesting city to visit in America. I'm so sick of people criticizing our nation's birthplace for having rude people . . . there are droves of rude Americans everywhere in this country! Plus I don't think a city has to be the biggest to be the best. This city has a certain feeling of life you don't get in the more obvious American cities. The problem is that too many Americans lack a sense of history and they completely ignore the great aspects of Philadelphia.

Nothing too significant. Even though I don't fish and wouldn't want to ever hurt them (they may not have as advanced a nervous system as mammals but how do we know if a fish feels some sort of pain or not?), I need to get a 2008 PA fishing license for the purpose of catching aquatic insects for my job. Should be fun.

Drills

Today I subbed a half-day. Thankfully the regular teacher was in the building and was back and forth to make sure the students didn't get too unruly. But the school also did two different drills that I never had in middle school (or any others for that matter). First there was a lock-down drill where people had to be silent and away from the door (imagine that: students being quiet . . . if only they could normally be like that). Then later on there was a severe weather drill where they sit against lockers. An interesting thing was that the classroom had an enviroscape (it's this model that demonstrates how pollution affects watersheds): I've used them countless times working at Green Lane Nature Center.

Fairly soon I plan to work on some music since I haven't had much time to do so lately.

Until next time.

I finally got around to watching The Office on TBS. They were showing the episode with Phyllis' shower. The Ben Franklin guy is awesome. Then I watched just the opening sequence of the next episode and it was when Jim did the Pavlov thing training Dwight to ask for Altoids upon computer shut down. Hence I had to post this and use my icon!

In terms of jobs I went back to subbing after a break following the season's end of my naturalist job. So I'm still hoping to find a full time job. It's annoying since I graduated college almost 3 years ago.

Random Fact: Mynocks reproduce by mitosis.

Just heard "Safety Dance" on tv

My housekeeping wounds have been healing slowly but at least somewhat. Today I was cleaning and organizing two book-shelves in my living room. It was pretty cool to see some of the assorted nick-knacks I hadn't seen in some time such as a few inevitable random legos, this 1976 election Jimmy Carter pin that I may or may not have mentioned on Livejournal sometime in the past, various candles, etc.

As a heads up to my livejournal friends, I will soon add some photos from my recent trip to Bermuda.

By the way, has anyone ever heard this one compilation of industrial (from what I remember) covers of '80s music with a rendition of the Soviet Hammer and Sickle on the cover (called '80s 2.0 or something). For some reason I always think of it synonymously with Covenant's Europa. The whole point to this is that when I heard said song I thought of that cd.

Transporting books and paper is torture

Today with Abbey at work I was doing some basic work at home. Updating and checking websites was one thing (which is far too time consuming). I was also transporting the never-ending supply of papers, books, magazines, etc. that I will try to use for my teaching (if one day I actually get a job). However, while doing so it was extremely hot and I was feeling dizzy. Unfortunately, I fell and really scraped my right arm badly. It was extremely painful. Oh well, hopefully my skin will heal fine. I also managed to write some more ideas for my soundtrack for my brother's horror/suspense movie. I can't wait to actually have something finished for that.

-Greg

N.B. I realized that my entry titles can be quite lengthy.
Another odyssey

Tomorrow I'm going on a cruise vacation with my family to Bermuda. We've done it before and it's always very fun. Hopefully it won't be like Odysseus and I'll be gone for 20 years. Even though it's for only a week, that's how I feel right now. I'm gonna miss Abbey while I'm gone. I just want her to know that I'll be thinking of her. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for Odysseus and Penelope. There better be no suitors whilst I'm gone! It's funny because I was thinking today of how the suitors in that story are so similar to many of the typical shallow "tough guys" you see today. Homer describes how they are rude, arrogant and have no regards for others: no different from many of such modern people! And I had this epiphany about the insight literature can possess despite thousands of years going by.

Another thing I was thinking about was that one must not let the past be a burden. Coming from someone who may teach History, I think it's very important to sometimes just not worry about the past. I think that there is always a time for change: this makes me think of how I want to read A Christmas Carol (purposely out of season). If someone improves themselves, it really means something.

By the way, I am posting this at an odd time because I fell into slumber while waiting for clothes to dry and then re-awoke hours later.

A couple of nights ago I noticed these two HUGE birds flying overhead. It was very strange. They looked even larger than hawks or vultures. And it was like 2am and the only raptors that I knew of in this area that are nocturnal are owls. It made me think of the legendary thunderbird. It was a bit scary when I was looking for them in the trees. However, I didn't notice them when I searched after I initially saw them. It was just a strange experience and if anyone wants to leave any remarks that would be awesome.

Anyway, I may try to use internet access on the ship occasionally but I also may not depending on the price. So just in case it is steep, I shall return in a week's time.

-Greg

I got back from my return to the Shore the other day. It was very restful, although Abbey and I couldn't enjoy the beach very much due to these aggressive biting flies. They are very conspicuous, perhaps a new species: they look similar to normal house flies but they try to suck blood and are very nasty. I did enjoy sitting on the porch with Abbey and looking out at the swamps and stars.

On a positive note, since returning to my house, my home phone line and internet are finally back up again! They first went down ages ago, and I was only able to sporadically check up on the information superhighway (why not call it by that arcane name?) and voicemail at places like Villanova or Abbey's house. Hopefully my new layout is somewhat aesthetically pleasing.

I shall try to do soon update with photos from various adventures: it should be fun.

-Greg

Hello all. I am new to this community. It's very fascinating to learn about the 1920s and all of the early 20th Century. Anyway, I have interest in the film and music of this period.

Additionally, an interesting website some of you may like to look at is this (http://www.genarians.com/). It mentions famous people who are in their 90s and 100s.

The (Sun)Burning

Today I returned from the shore. I know, you're probably thinking, "everyone's always going to the shore." Well, let me remind that just because other people go to the shore as well, it doesn't mean that therefore that you can not go. That would be overcompensating for trying to avoid conformity. Anyway, I don't see how the act of taking a vacation is conformity anyway; that's like saying that eating or exercising is conformity.

Anyway, it was fun. Abbey and I had a fun time at the waterpark, although I got sunburn as retribution for my enjoyment. Actually I put on sunblock, and it was spf 15(supposedly this is the magic number for effective sunblock if I recall my Health classes), but both of us got burned. So now I'm recovering from my wounds.

Free Summer

I just picked up food and drink for my Abbey at Wawa for the 7.868^9th time; but it's okay because I always like taking care of her. This morning I went to the shore with my mom to visit my dad and little brother, who were on vacation there, to have a celebration of my birthday. Abbey was feeling sick this morning so she stayed and now I'm so happy to be with her. Abbey is beautiful and I love her and I'm looking at her right now and seductively eating Doritos (wink)! Anyway, this past Thursday I did spend my birthday with Abbey and it was fun. She got me some awesome presents (Star Wars Episode II soundtrack, detailed World Map, Undeclared, Prairie Home Companion audio book, and the book Lies My Teacher Told Me. They are really cool and I will enjoy them greatly. She also did the very caring and nice deed of cooking me spaghetti dinner and delicious fluffy white confetti cake. We also went to Coldstone and I got a free Berry*3 Ice Cream since they have a birthday deal but still payed 15 dollars for everyone else . . . it's okay though, it's like a Hobbit's birthday! It's funny because I was going to have "Second Breakfast" but I was full by the time we could have had some.

I'm glad to be free of my Master's courses and student teaching. The next step is to find a teaching job. And now the waiting game! This game sucks, let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos! Now there's an idea, promote my prospective education service on 2am on a channel that no one watches: probably more effective than PA REAP (zing)! My apologies binary plane of existence cyber world, if there was a cheesiness scale, what I just said would have erased the very possibility of the conception of such a creation. Now that's a quandary! The fact of my own mentioning the idea is unnerving enough to warp the very fabric of time and space. This makes me want to watch more Doctor Who! I keep staring at Abbey. It seems to be making her uneasy but I love to see her beautiful face. Now I must go.

Citrus

So right now I'm still student teaching. I found it very fun and interesting to teach both World War I and World War II. I'll be teaching about propaganda next and possibly be observed for a differential instruction lesson: hopefully it would turn out well. Being that Livejournal did a nice deed and allows more icons now, you fellow writers can see a little more variation in my posting flavor.

Right now I am at Abbey's. Law & Order: CI is on the t.v. Abbey loves to watch Law & Order, especially SVU (not a dyslexic gas guzzler). I can get into that show as well. She also has shown me clips on You Tube of predators caught on Dateline. It's mighty messed up how twisted some people can get, especially with the proliferation of porn on the internet. Anyway, citrus is my entry name because just as I started typing here, the investigator said that word. So basically I heard the word out of context and just figured I'd use it.

Tomorrow is Abbey's birthday! I'm excited for her. She will be turning 20, finally she can be in the same decade of age as I am again. Plus that doesn't sound quite as young so I won't feel all uncomfortable with myself dating someone younger than me. We already went away to the Shore over the weekend as part of her birthday present. I'm looking forward to seeing her reaction to her gifts. I really like being around her and I want to make her day special. I also must make a stuffed animal for her at some point because I was hesitant to do so at the Shore. I must make it up to her!

Right now a hippo is staring at me and I must flee!

C'mon Death, you can do this!

I have to somehow produce an epic rough draft for my Educational Research proposal for tomorrow. Plus I have some lengthy projects in the other class I have to revise as soon as I can. Thus I feel overwhelmed with work due in a short period of time; hence the subject as the quote from Death.

On a side note, has anyone ever noticed how despite February being the shortest month in the year, it seems to overwhelmingly have the most birthdays? It also seems like no one is born in the summer: I'm like one of 7 people on Earth born in June.

Until next time.

Beware of falling Salacious Crumbs

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you

"The dinosaurs pictured are Corythosaurus, Anatosaurus, and Kritosaurus."

This is from a Golden Guide book entitled Dinosaurs. Does anyone else remember those things? By the way, the only sentences on p.123 were captions, but they were in a sort of paragraph form: strange.

Just in case anyone was wonderning, this Bright Eyes song title can be translated as "the girl whom I love is beautiful."

The lonely fate of Jennie Wade

I got back from an awesome and restful vacation at Gettysburg. It was just so nice being alone with Abbey. We also ventured around the battlefields, which are always cool to witness. At one point I went to the top of the Pennsylvania Monument, an awesome view although Abbey was scared to come up. I also showed (why does that seem grammatically incorrect?) Abbey the engraving of my great-great grandfather's name: Thomas Lynch of Company H in the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry. We also found a pizza hut . . . given how they are all but closed in this area, another historical relic come alive in that town! One thing that is weird is when we saw bullet holes in building from the battle: quite a reminder of the past. Anyway, I enjoyed the whole experience.

Fetus in fetu

I'm almost done my semester. I'm going to go in for school observations once more for the semester next week, finish rewriting a couple of papers for good measure, and have Graduate Assistant hours next week. I'll provide a longer update when all of that's done.

I saw some thing on the Discovery Channel last night about abnormal twins . . . "fetus in fetu" means a fetus within a fetus-pretty disturbing. Anyway, I can't wait to see Abbey when she finishes work today.

Sick of all the racism accusations

Do you know what really grinds my gears? With this new dress code in NBA conferences, players are calling it racist. How is making someone dress like a respectable individual racist? It's so stupid what these gangster wannabe thugs like Allen Iverson think. Last time I checked there are dress codes of one sort of another in almost any job. Just because the league doesn't want Hip-Hop attire doesn't mean that they are racist. Is rap the only facet of African identity!!??!! They have good reason to not want hip-hop attire. Rap has alot of horrible immoral connotations: believe me, I had to hear rap music every day going on my bus to high school! These rappers talk about abusing women (of course calling them derogatory names), killing cops, greed, drug use, the list goes on. It just makes me angry whenever some African Americans accuse Caucasian Americans of being racist for such pitiful reasons! It's sad when in this day and age people repeatedly (albeit jokingly) call girls "hoes." Hasn't anyone stopped to wonder why? Just because these particular blacks had difficult lives doesn't mean that they should erode some sense of morality. Like I alluded to earlier, aren't there more people of African descent who do not like rap than do (think about all of the people actually from AFRICA!)??!! That is just utterly inappropriate to call people who see something wrong with hip-hop ideals as racist! I am just so sick of hearing this message that just because you're white, you're a racist. As I white person, I refuse to allow myself to be afraid to express what I believe because I know that what I am saying is not racist. I want equality among all humans for God's sake!!!
